The Gallery

Hespa's gallery is much smaller than her library, although still bigger than the main room.  The framed pictures hanging around the walls seem to be split into two catagories - pictures of Hespa by other artists, and Hespa's own work.

At the far end of the gallery is a large and ornate door, bearing the following inscription: Welcome to my most important work, if it can be called mine, for I am merely the creator and humble compiler of the AFD Family Portrait.

Hespa by Emma
Hello, this is me!  My human self, Emma, draws me in cartoon form (the only form she can).  Due to a rather complicated mental connection between us, I seem to end up looking the way she draws me, so this really is what I look like.  Sometime soon I'll put up a whole series of 'evolution' pictures, showing how I've developed through Emma's drawings into the beautiful dragon you see here! *g*  (BTW, if you're wondering why my tail disappears into a weird blue thing - that's 'cos I'm just emerging from a portal)

Hespa by Tser

Wow! I think this is really exciting! Dearest Tserisa has drawn a portrait of me! I think it's wonderful, Tser. Please note the ears, which are the same in both picures - no I didn't get into a fight, my ear-shape is very important to who I am.

Oh my, another picture!  This one is by Jawz, done in cartoon style (the style I feel most at home in, as you might guess), and it's soooo me!  And then she went and coloured it, too - a bit brighter than I'm used to, but still very cool!  Thankyou Jawz! **huggles**

This picture is by my wingbrother, friend and partner in crime Ngarewyrd.  It is cute or what!  Note ears, as usual... *g*  Thanks a bundle, Wyrd!

And this picture comes from Jrrhack, a very talented dragon and one of the AFD Family Portrait's official artists.  He did it without asking for a description, so this image differs from the others in a few details, but it's still a beautiful pic of me, and I especially love the wings and the overall posture - very me!  Thankyou, Jrrhack!  ...Now, see that snowball?  Keep watching it...  Keep watching... *SPLUT*

I mentioned to Jrrhack that I am planning to get his first design printed on a long-sleeved t-shirt, since I have no dragon clothes for cold weather and since his image of me is so very appropriate to winter - and he responded by giving me a summer image as well!  As you can probably see, this one is very different from the last, and a lot more true to my form as I see it.  Thanks again, Jrrhack!

My work - I tend to scribble a lot, mostly in classes and lectures when I should be paying attention, rather than on my own time, but I will not delude myself that I am a natural artist, and most of my pics end up scribbled out, or abandoned forever in the pages of one workbook or another.  Occasionally, however, I come up with something that I actually like, in which case I will scan it and usually then play with it on Photoshop until I like it even better.  Here are the best of these:

A while back I hung around the Furcadia MUCK for a while, because it made a nice change from chatting without pictures, and since dragon characters were first unavailable and then expensive, I took the form of a horse (I like horses; plus I've gotten far too used to people looking over my shoulder when I'm drawing myself and saying 'is that a horse'?).  This is a roughish sketch I did to illustrate my three incarnations.  That's my first attempt at a cartoon human, and a self-portrait at that, so don't expect too much of it...

N'Chelli (Angie), an anthropomorphic alicorn (that's a winged unicorn, although the definition seems to be open to debate) character I created for no reason in particular.  My best attempt so far at a Photoshop background.

A second picture of Angie, and probably the one I like best.  I needed to fill up my school Art folio at the time, so I scanned this pic at different stages of completion, and have put up some of those developmentals for good measure.  The background to the fifth image isn't straight black, honest!

My tribute to Troilus, one of our cats, who died on September 18th 2001 (see the Updates page for more info).  Done entirely in Photoshop, from an original pencil sketch.

My latest pic, and one of which I'm quite proud.  I can't take any credit for the position, which was inspired by a beautiful Rob Brown painting (if you haven't seen his work, try and find some - I have three of his calenders now and am in awe of his dragons, but have never been able to find any of his art online).  Nonetheless, stargazing is a passtime I love.
(If you've noticed that something seems a little different in this pic, well spotted!  I decided a while ago that I was more comfortable on four legs than two, so I am now entirely quadrupedal, and have developed digitigrade (two joints) legs, as are nicely depicted in Jrrhack's version of me.)
