N.B. As you're bound to notice, this room is not yet completed! My iminent disconnection from Minkirri has forced me to finish uploading my new site, even though I haven't finished the changes I'm making. Please bear with me!
You find yourself in a large, round stone cavern. The walls appear to be full of holes, although they do not look like they were drilled or tunneled through the rock itself. Rather, it appears as if each is an invisible, circular doorway hanging in the air just in front of the rock face. Through these portals you may catch a glimpse of colour or movement, a snatch of sound as if from afar. The portals are not scattered randomly, but collected together in titled catagories, and each has a small label fixed to the wall beneath it. Portals are Hespa's favourite mode of transport, and from this room you can visit all the places that are important to her.
(If you have been here before and were expecting something bigger than this, sorry to disappoint. Collecting every dragon site on the internet was a noble ambition when I was young and foolish and had lots of time on my hands, but I'm now older and more realistic, and aware that I really don't spend much time on keeping my web-lair in order anymore. So I decided it would be sensible to use my portal room for something that was a) easy to keep track of and b) useful to me - that is, links that I actually use with relative frequency. If you're interested in a bigger and exclusively dragon-related collection, try here or here.)

Hespa's
Favourites
(Mostly dragon sites, surprise surprise - but not all.)
Yes, I admit, I'm biased about this one. The portrait is
a joint project between myself and Lothaekor, another afd dragon - a giant
and ever-evolving picture of the denizens of alt.fan.dragons in it's various
incarnations, along with a database of afd-er profiles. Yes, I know
it's self-promotion, but it's also a very good website, so go check it
out!
AFD Literature Page
Strictly dragon-related stories and poetry written by afd members
(including one by me), some very good indeed. In particular, check
out the Steel Dragon series, by Michael Glenn(?) - in my opinion some of
the best unpublished work I've ever read!
Alt.Fan.Dragons
Ezboard
A newer addition to the afd network, and one I like to visit
when I have time (not very often, sadly) - an online forum along
much the same lines as the newsgroup. The discussions range from
serious and on-topic to just plain silly! Run by Sonarrat, my dear
wingbrother and adopted child.
Alt.Fan.Dragons Homepage
Everything for the alt.fans.dragons member, not to mention everything
you need to know to become a member.
Arangast's
Greeting Card Room
Produces by and afd dragon, this and Nukapai (below) come equal
in my mind as the best dragon-themed e-card services online. The
pictures are great, covering all sorts of different dragons in different
moods. And the service is very professional - you can choose
your own pic or music from elsewhere, get a seperate colour for the title
and the main text (and what a range of colours there is!) and you can return
to any part of the process to make changes straight from the preview.
The California Kit Fox
a.k.a Roy D. Pounds II, one of my favourite furry artists.
Some of his work is funny, some happy, some poignant - but all very good.
And he draws cool dragons, too!
Draconic
'For Dragons By Dragons' - unlike afd, Draconic is designed specifially
for real dragons. The online forum covers a variety of draconic topics
(including the chance to display your draconic writing/drawing skills to
the world), and other useful services include a 'meet-a-dragon' (pen-pal
style) service and an enormous database of dragon links.
Dragon E-cards at Nukapai.net
Arangast's only real rival, that I know of! The range of
services are much the same, although there is no music option, but the
great range of pictures (including some with beautiful dragon-oriented
messages included) make up for that. Apart from everything else,
this page is a must-see for the little dragon that follows the cursor around
- I want!
Geting Home To
Alfandra
A little game I invented for afd - basically, I started a RP-style
story and then left everyone to make their own endings. These are
the stories that resulted!
Goon Show Scripts
I believe firmly that if more people knew about the magic of
the Goons, the world would be... well, certainly a more interesting place!
For some reason sounds files of this brilliant old radio series featuring
Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Herry Secombe are nigh on impossible
to find on the net, so here's the next best thing...
Here Be Dragons
This and the Realm (below) come equal as the best dragon pages
I have found run by a single person, not an organisation. Here be
info on dragon types, history and physiology(!), dragon images, animations
and web graphics (including great icons like the ones on my pages), books
and stories, etc, etc. Plus links to every kind of dragon resource
imaginable, as well as a large selection of links to general dragon pages
and web-lairs.
Just Enough Faith(?)
The L-Space Web
The biggest and most comprehensive website I know of for everything
relating to Terry Pratchett and/or Discworld. The man, the books,
the art, the fans, the merchandise... Everything you could possibly
need is here!
Mia's Anthro Index
A gigantic database of furry stories from around the web - there's
enough in there to keep you reading for years! I still have a long
way to go, and she keeps updating the listings! Incidentally, Mia's indexing
is very good - you can choose stories by title, author, keywords or even
species involved.
Planet Drakan
The only PC game I've found that allows you to ride (and effectively
be)
a dragon! This isn't the official site (which no longer seems to
be up), but definitely the most comprehensive site I've seen. News,
screenshots, links, and info on every technical and story-based facet of
the game, including cheats, just to name some of the great stuff here.
The Realm of the Dragons
A LOT of time has gone into these pages, and best way to give
you an idea of the sheer volume there is a rundown of the index: images,
links, a (huge) dragon search engine, types of dragons, about dragons,
dragon theory, history, stories, miscellanious, books, message board, chat
room, adopted dragons, web rings... you get the idea... All extremely
comprehensive!
South Fur Lands
The website of Australia's first furry fanzine. I am very fond
of SFL, having had a hand in binding the last few issues, and having had
my work published in issue #23!
Yerf.com
Lots of furry art by lots of furry artists, updated daily and
mostly very, very good. For a nice selection, try looking at the
'Recent Uploads' page first.
Wingsiblings
(My family in afd, although some no longer frequent that place.)

OzFurries
(OzFurry is a mailing list for Australian furries (yes, I count
dragons as furries), and my main link to similar-minded people who actually
live near me - through OzFurry I've been able to get together with most
of these wonderful people in Real Life [TM], for which I am eternally grateful!)
OzFurry
Not a person, but I thought I should include the link for anyone
interested in finding out more.

Others
(Those few who have become friends through other means than afd
or OzFurry.)
Blackshadowshade
Celwyn, an RL friend of mine, an elf and alternatively a wolf, but who also has a dragon page
Real Life [TM] friends Elissa and Mel, who sadly
have nothing to do with dragons besides putting up with me, but have nonetheless
started their own page (it has unicorns, and a guardian net nerd, and gorgeous
music).
Web Comics
(Yes, I know, I read way too many of these - they're addictive,
they are! Mostly furry, but not all.)
The Class Menagerie
The Cyantian Chronicles
Syke has to be the most prolific comic artist I've encountered!
She has (?) comics at last count, updated with varying degrees of regularity
and mostly featuring the people of Cyantia, a planet populated by various
furry species. The world-building here is very good - Cyantia is a complex
and well-rounded world.
Demonology 101
A young demon-girl tries to cope with school, life and the forces
of evil. In a lot of ways this comic reminds me of Buffy - it's mature,
funny, sad, silly, scary... I keep being amazed by how much emotional response
it provokes in me. Definitely the best-written web comic I have encountered.
Dragon Tales
The wild adventures of (?) young dragons, an eccentric robot
and a psychotic squirrel. Tons of fun!
Freefall
A morally bankrupt alien and his innocently enthusiastic robot
hire a new engineer for their ship - an anthro 'Bowman's wolf' with big
teeth and a heart of gold. Again, very funny stuff!
Garfield
Need I say more? A classic! My favourite 'commercial' comic.
Set in a furry world where the food chain is still as ruthless
as ever, this comic follows the lives of a happily married rabbit/wolf
couple, as well as their assorted family and friends.
Lacunae
The Makeshift Miracle
The trials and tribulations of two rather nonconformist kids
- Ozy is placidly and implacably zen, while Millie has a lot in common
with Calvin from Calvin & Hobbes. Very funny, but also strongly
tied in with current events and issues - it'll make you laugh, but it'll
also make you think.
Cerulean's Tower
Cerulean is an afd dragon and a fantastic artist! There are lots
of his pictures here, including portraits of several members of afd.
Dee Dreslough's Art Gallery
Very well-designed and beautiful dragon icons, arrows and page
headers for public use.
Elfwood
The Urban Dragon Home
Page
Urban dragons come in all sorts of varieties! Very cute artwork.
Falconwind's
Eyrie
Books, links, and apparently art and writings to come. A large
collection of midi's, though (that's songs in sound files, to the rest
of us), including the Red Dwarf song.
+Hebrik's Lair
He has a good list of dragon programs for the computer, which
is the first I've seen.
Lurk's Lair
The Alfandra/dragons section, although small, contains something
very important - the definitive guide to all the flora amnd fauna of Alfandra,
my native land. Apart from that, a detailed description of Lurk himself,
and plenty of dragon links.
*+Portal
Room
A page of portals to other lairs, mainly, but the reason I love
it is the music! It's the theme to Red Dwarf, jazzed up.
+Thanatos BlackFire's
Weyr
Travelling through these pages is a little like a choose-your-own-adventure
story, which makes it interesting. Unfortunately, there is not much there
apart from writing and links, but it makes a nice walk-through.
